Mercari Becomes First Japanese Company to Attain a Global Gender Equality Certification at the EDGE Assess Level

Mercari, Inc. (“Mercari”) announces that it has attained “EDGE Assess” level certification, a globally recognized standard that evaluates initiatives regarding gender equality in the workplace.

In December of 2022, Mercari effectively became the first Japanese company to attain the EDGE Assess certification level.

EDGE (Economic Dividends for Gender Equality) is a global assessment methodology and certification standard for gender equality established by the EDGE Certified Foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland. An EDGE certification assessment examines an analysis of a company’s HR data and policies, the results of workplace initiatives, and an employee questionnaire designed to gain insight into the state of affairs of the workplace across five areas: equal pay for equivalent work, recruitment and promotion, leadership development training and mentoring, flexible working, and company culture.

Since 2018, Mercari has trumpeted the value of individual diverse experiences and perspectives and promoted diversity and inclusion (D&I), aiming to create globally competitive teams*. In these ensuing years, Mercari has also run various internal and external activities and events. These include Build@Mercari, a software engineer training program to support tech industry minorities such as women, the LGBT+ community, and self-identified members of other underrepresented groups.

The Economic Dividends for Gender Equality (EDGE) Certification is a global assessment standard. The EDGE Assess certification level that Mercari has received recognizes organizations that are committed to an impactful action plan based on concrete goals and implementation for the achievement of gender equality.

Based on the action plan that came to light as a result of this certification, Mercari will forge ahead with creating a work environment where an even more diverse workforce can flourish while aiming to promote D&I throughout Japanese society by publicizing information about our initiatives.
