Mercari, Inc. will host “Mercari R4D 5th Anniversary Session ‘Pioneering the Path’—The Potential of Technology Born From Co-Innovation,” to mark the fifth year of operations of R&D organization Mercari R4D (“R4D”). The event will start at 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 22, 2022.
Mercari established R4D in December 2017 as a research and development organization aiming to implement the company’s findings into society. R4D stands for Research and four D’s: Development, Design, Deployment, and Disruption. The organization’s goal is to create new value through research and development designed to be deployed in our future society while introducing disruptive ideas and technologies. R4D conducts research and development in such areas as AI (artificial intelligence), blockchain technologies, HCI (human-computer interaction), quantum computing, and mobility.
At “Mercari R4D 5th Anniversary Session ‘Pioneering the Path’—The Potential of Technology Born From Co-Innovation,” discussions centered on “co-innovation,” the idea of R&D organizations and methods that exceed the confines of defined organizations and affiliations to unite various communities will take place. Discussing across the position, the question of how to build a world where researchers can thrive will be Dr. Yoichi Ochiai, Director of Strategic Platform for Digital Nature at the University of Tsukuba, and Dr. Atsuo Kishimoto, Director of the Research Center on Ethical, Legal and Social Issues, Osaka University.
