What information do we collect from users?
In order to fulfill the purposes of use in our Privacy Policy and provide better services to our users, Mercari Group collects information from our users upon utilizing our services.
The user information we collect includes, but is not limited to, personal information (as defined in laws regarding protection of personal information).
Mercari Group handles this user information carefully with the utmost respect for our users’ privacy.

Name, date of birth, address, etc.
When you create an account on Mercari Group’s services, we collect information such as your name, date of birth, address, occupation, phone number, nickname, email address, and password.
We also collect information including your name and phone number when you visit Mercari Station, attend Mercari Workshops, or take part in any other event run by Mercari Group.
We only collect information required to provide you with the service or event.
For example, when filling in your personal information, you may choose not to provide us with information about your gender.
Also, if you would like to change the information registered to your Mercari account, you may do so after going through an identity verification process on the Mercari app.
Credit card information and bank account information
When you buy an item on Mercari and pay for it using a credit card, we collect information regarding that credit card.
When you submit a payout request for your Mercari balance to be transferred to your bank account, or when you charge your Merpay balance from your bank account, we collect information regarding that bank account.
All credit card information and bank account information is securely managed with the highest level of security in Mercari Group.
Identity verification documents (driver’s license, etc.)
Merpay uses eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer), an online identity verification system, to confirm that the person creating the account really is who they say they are. See here for more details. As part of this identity verification process, we collect information regarding identity verification documents, such as your driver’s license.
Imges of your driver's license and other documents you provide during this process is used for identity verification and fraud prevention purposes.
Device information, access information, etc.
When you use Mercari Group’s services, we collect information about the version of the app you’re using, your browser, and your device.
The information we collect includes cookie information used to identify your browser, screen size, battery status, language, and other information obtained from your smartphone’s OS.
We use this information to prevent fraudulent use of our services and to ensure the safety of transactions.
We also use it to provide a better and more convenient experience for you on the app.
Purchase/listing history, recently viewed items, etc.
When you use Mercari Group’s services, we collect information about the items you view, as well as the items you buy and sell.
We also collect the pictures and item descriptions you provide when listing items on Mercari.
We use this information to ensure safe and secure transactions on Mercari and improve our services for your convenience.
IP address and location information
When you use Merpay, we use your GPS information (your current location) to display nearby stores that accept Merpay.
We also collect your IP address when you use Mercari.
You can turn off location information at any time in the app settings. IP address information is also used to help prevent fraudulent use of our services.
Merchant information
Mercari Group collects information regarding the stores that have implemented Merpay payments and stores that have applied to become Mercari Shops (merchants). This includes the operator’s name and the store’s location and phone number.
We use this information to promote Mercari Group’s services and provide support to and screen our merchants.
When do we collect user information?
Mercari Group collects information from users in situations like the following.
You use Mercari Group’s services and provide us with your information
When you register for an account on Mercari and fill in personal information such as your name and address on the smartphone app or from a desktop browser, Mercari Group collects that information once you submit it.
When you make an appointment to visit Mercari Station, we may ask you to fill out a reservation form with information such as your name and email address. When you submit that information, it is sent to Mercari Group.
When you apply to become a Merpay merchant or a Mercari Shops, we ask you to submit information such as your store’s location, phone number, and representative’s name. Mercari Group collects the information you submit to us.
You use a service partnered with Mercari Group and Mercari Group collects usage information and history from that service
With your consent, we may collect information about you from services outside of Mercari Group that you use.
We use this information to analyze what kind of items you’re interested in.
You consent to a third party providing us with information about you (including situations where you log in to Mercari through integration with a third-party ID)
When you log in to Mercari Group’s services using an account from a non-Mercari Group service, such as Google or Facebook, we may collect information such as your name and email address associated with that account.
Mercari Group also collects information about users when it is provided to us through a credit information agency.
In the event a data breach or other security incident occurs on a non-Mercari Group service and the external service announces what information has leaked, Mercari Group may collect that information and use it to ensure the safety of Mercari users and prevent further damages.
In these situations, Mercari Group follows laws and ordinances and carries out appropriate verification to ensure that we do not collect any information inappropriately.
You view/use a service provided by one of Mercari Group’s business partners and Mercari Group collects that information
When you view or use a service provided by one of Mercari Group’s business partners, we may use browser identifiers to collect information about you.
In some cases, Mercari Group allows non-Mercari Group services to collect users' information directly from Mercari Group services
Mercari uses Google Analytics, Facebook’s SDK, and similar services in order to analyze Mercari usage data and place advertisements.
