Employees who have been unable to travel home or visit loved ones overseas will be eligible for 10 days of leave, valid until the end of June 2023
Mercari, Inc. (“Mercari”) announces the creation of a special leave program that grants its employees with loved ones residing overseas a maximum of 10 consecutive days to travel. Implemented to coincide with the loosening of border restrictions in Japan, the program will remain in effect until June 30, 2023, and grant this special leave to employees who have not returned home since late December 2020.
Owing to the Japanese government’s strict enforcement of border restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan strengthened quarantine measures and banned or restricted entry into the country from overseas starting in late December 2020. During this time, many Mercari employees with loved ones abroad (spouses, partners, children, parents, grandparents, siblings, or anyone else the employee considers to be a loved one, regardless of blood or legal relation) were not able to visit their home countries or spend time with their loved ones.
Seeking to quell the anxiety of employees during hard times, Mercari supports the Go Bold activities of its diverse members by implementing a variety of initiatives for well-being, such as the company’s Merci Box* employee benefit system. Going forward, Mercari aims not only to provide measures against COVID-19, but also to create a work environment that makes it possible for its diverse members to feel at ease and excel professionally.
